SAIC has an opening for an organized and motivated Senior Mechanical Engineer who is looking for an opportunity to grow with our company as we continue to expand our support in the modernization and development of various torpedo test equipment hardware designs as well as supporting production activities out of our Middletown, RI office.
The ideal candidate should have experience supporting various projects at all levels showcasing leadership qualities and attributes, as well as project management skills. The candidate should have the ability to discuss projects they have supported and/or led. Candidate should be able to self-manage/self-direct projects, and communicate regularly with customers, engineers, logisticians and technicians.

Candidate should be able to self-manage/self-direct projects, and communicate regularly with customers, engineers, logisticians and technicians.
Job Duties:
- Must be able to lead multiple high-profile projects which involve interfacing with the customer to define key test requirements, sourcing and interfacing with multiple suppliers / vendors, establishing all supporting project documentation including analysis of alternatives (AOAs), technical design packages (TDPs), presentations, test requirements and operational results.
- The candidate will need a broad engineering skill set, well-developed work habits, enthusiasm for the work, the willingness to get hands-on with the projects when required, an eagerness to learn new things, and the ability to work through challenging projects without extensive oversight.
- The individual will be responsible for leadership throughout the entire project from customer concept to post-test analysis/ facility approval. These projects will broadly include the design and fabrication of components and interfaces for electrical and mechanical systems for both test items and facility infrastructure.
- Technical writing and engineering documentation proficiency is paramount to support the development of TDPs, project schedules, AOAs, and presentations.
- The candidate will have to be detail oriented and possess excellent communication skills to ensure all aspects of the project remain on time and budget while meeting all requirements.
- The candidate will routinely interface with different customers through digital means, in-person meetings at the local Naval research center in Newport, and occasionally at various customer sites.
Qualifications
Qualifications:
- B.S. in Mechanical Engineering and five (5) or more years of experience or M.S. in Mechanical Engineering and three (3) or more years of experience.
- Must have the ability to obtain and maintain SECRET level clearance.
- Must have experience leading multiple projects to completion.
- Must be able to support in-person interactions with customers at local Naval research center in Newport, RI and occasionally at external customer sites.
- Experience with most of the following:
- Execution of large-scale projects using formal Project Management and/or Systems Engineering practices.
- Extensive knowledge and understanding of mechanical and electrical systems is necessary.
- Experience with National Instrument's hardware and software systems or other data acquisition systems is preferrable.
