Space Sensing Senior Systems Engineer, Electro Optical/Infrared Weather Systems
Overview: SAIC is currently looking for a Systems Engineer to provide technical advisory support to the US Space Force (USSF) Space Systems Center (SSC) Space Sensing Directorate (SSC/SN). SSC/SN acquires Overhead Persistent Infrared (OPIR) and Weather/Environmental Monitoring space and ground systems in support of military and intelligence community users. This position provides guidance and technical support to SSC/SNSW, Weather Systems Branch, for new and ongoing acquisition and development efforts located at Los Angeles Air Force Base, El Segundo, California. The successful candidate will interface with military customers, development contractors, and provide recommendations to the Government customer on program activities.
Job Responsibilities:
· Provide systems engineering support for the design, development, and integration of EO/IR weather and ground systems
· Support the development and implementation of technical specifications and performance criteria for EO/IR sensors and related systems
· Apply systems engineering best practices in consideration of the overall EO/IR weather systems architecture, including hardware, software, and interfaces
· Support development of detailed system requirements and specifications based on mission objectives and user needs
· Provide technical guidance to cross-functional teams, including engineers, scientists, and contractors
· Support development and execution of test plans and procedures to validate system performance and ensure compliance with requirements
· Identify and mitigate technical risks throughout the system development lifecycle
· Leverage knowledge of configuration control processes to ensure system integrity and traceability
· Support system performance improvements to enhance system capabilities
· Review comprehensive technical documentation, including design specifications, test reports, and system manuals
· Provide support to drafting solicitations to include Requests for Proposal and Technical Evaluations encompassing new systems or contractual updates to existing systems
· Work closely with stakeholders, including government agencies, contractors, and end-users, to ensure successful system development and deployment
Qualifications
· US Citizen with eligibility to hold a DoD TS/SCI security clearance
· Experience navigating US Space Force/Air Force acquisition lifecycle
· Experience in Systems Engineering as it relates to Space System programs
· Knowledge of requirements generation, concept development, and Planning, Programming, Budgeting, and Execution (PPBE) processes
· Comfortable delivering presentations on programmatic and technical matters to Government customers
· Excellent interpersonal, leadership, team building, and problem-solving skills with a demonstrated ability to be effective in Government and Contractor teams
· Ability to recommend and make decisions on projects and action items to achieve program and/or organizational objectives
· Ability to work proactively and independently as a member of a highly effective technical team
Desired Experience and Skills:
· Experience working in systems engineering and technical advisory (SETA) roles
· Experience in EO/IR, and OPIR Weather systems sensors and processing
· Experience with satellite system data exploitation
· Demonstrated experience leading requirements development
· Demonstrated application of advanced technical principles, theories, and concepts
· Experience using JIRA and Confluence platforms
· Experience mentoring and advising less experienced staff
Education and Experience:
· Min. 9 years of experience with bachelor's degree experience in related field may also be substituted for a master's degree, preferred a master's degree
o 12 years' work experience in related field may be substituted for master's degree.
Certifications (Desired):
· Project Management Institute (PMI), Project Management Professional (PMP) Certificate
· International Council on Systems Engineering (INCOSE) Associate Systems Engineering Professional (ASEP) or Certified Systems Engineering Professional (CSEP) Certificate
Target salary range: $120,001 - $160,000. The estimate displayed represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors.
