SAIC is seeking a Technical Writer for a position in Arlington, VA. SAIC is recognized as an information technology (IT) leader in intelligence and law enforcement. This is an on-site position with no remote options. We are seeking a highly motivated technical writer to gather, analyze, compose and review technical documentation. The technical writer conducts research, ensures the use of proper terminology, and translates technical information into clear, readable documents for technical and non-technical personnel. The technical writer also helps develop, review, and edit all types of documents and reports.
100% Onsite 5 days a week.
- Help design, write, and edit technical documentation.
- Liaise with and interview software developers, system engineers, network architects, training and program managers, and other subject matter experts (SMEs) to gather information to define the content for technical documentation.
- Work closely with SMEs to develop, organize, write, and edit technical documents such as system design documents, standard operating procedures (SOPs), management plans, and workplace instructions for documentation purposes.
- Collaborate with leadership and technicians to manage documentation repositories, track the recreation and revision process, and secure digital libraries.
- Organize material and complete written assignments and reviews according to set standards, such as style guides, regarding order, conciseness, style, and terminology.
- Ensure document adherence to classification marking rules/regulations.
- Establish the overall organizational layout and editorial standards of the submissions.
- Research, create, and maintain information architecture templates to facilitate document creation and uphold information standards and brand.
- Create and update an SOP for creating, revising, and submitting technical documentation for technical writer review.
- Work with the PMO to develop a consistent, uniform style and language.
- Manage the updates and revisions to reports, presentations, and technical documents.
- Maintain reference materials and writing/editing resources on collaborative content management systems.
- Attend various stakeholder meetings – including advisory and risk management boards related to IT systems, hardware, and software – and take notes and write meeting minutes summarizing that summarize what occurred and delineate action items.
Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor's degree in journalism, English, or communications or six (6) years or more of related experience as a technical writer/editor; master's degree in journalism, English, or communications or four (4) years or more experience as a technical writer/editor
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret clearance requiring U.S. Citizenship
- Superb written and verbal communication skills, with a keen eye for detail.
- Must be comfortable researching various IT-related technologies
- Microsoft Word, Excel, SharePoint, and PowerPoint
Desired:
- Familiarity with Government Publishing Office Style Manual and Chicago Manual of Style
- Experience in working with IT SMEs, i.e., software, hardware, programming, networking, cybersecurity
