The Operations Manager is responsible for leading a Team in safely planning, operating and maintaining a coal handling operation on customer property in San Antonio, TX. A successful manager will need to effectively balance Customer and Company priorities while ensuring all materials are received, handled, and reclaimed in a safe and efficient manner. This role provides a unique opportunity to lead and engage in multiple aspects of the industrial supply chain and logistics. Aspects include, but are not limited to, material handling, fixed asset operations and maintenance, yellow equipment fleet management, locomotive and rail activities and switching. These are just a few of the benefits you can expect from working with Savage Opportunities for growth A culture that appreciates our team members Paid Time Off (“PTO”) Paid holidays Profit Sharing and Annual Bonus Excellent benefits including medical, dental, vision, life, short and long term disability, 401(k) with company match, profit sharing, paid sick leave, and opportunity for future growth A culture of safety What you'll be doing Gain experience and knowledge of coal handling operations, bulk commodity handling, equipment maintenance, locomotive and rail processes, and logistics Execute and teach the S7 Delivery System to ensure safe, consistent service to our Customers Build strong relationships with Customers and understand their contracts and rate structures Promote a safety culture within the Team that reflects a commitment to safety and work safely, even if no one is watching Develop and execute business plans, including budgeting, projecting, variance analysis, and cost management Proactive problem solving, decision making, organizing, and directing team members, while utilizing coaching techniques to manage retention Leverage hands-on leadership that demonstrates professionalism and superior customer service Create an environment where team members are committed to professionalism, safety, and promoting the Savage vision and legacy What we will need from you Previous managerial experience of 10+ team members preferred Bachelor's degree with business or engineering/technical emphasis preferred 5+ years of industrial operations and maintenance experience in the Energy, Power Plant or Coal Handling industries Experience developing/implementing a proactive maintenance strategy for an industrial facility, including Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) competency Project management experience ($250K+) Strong leadership skills to ensure team members are safe, efficient, and act with integrity and professionalism Hands-on, hardworking self-starter with the ability to work independently with minimal supervision Good written and oral communication skills with an ability to engage well with Customers, team members, and other contractors or vendors Experience in rail safety, procedures, switching, and track maintenance preferred but not required Knowledge of compliance with applicable Local, State, and Federal requirements Desire and willingness to learn and grow within the position and the company Here are some of the physical requirements Must be able to work outdoors in various climates and, at times, in excess of 12 hours, day or night shift during emergencies Able to lift and carry 50 pounds Able to climb steps and ladders and work at heights The ability to work, walk, and stand on uneven surfaces for extended periods of time
