As the Rail Operations Safety Supervisor, this individual will perform daily testing, training, and observations of Team Members in the field to help improve safety and operational performance. The position will travel to the other operations within the region to support all operations in the area. This position will report to the Director of Operations and work closely with Unit SH&E leader and area General Manager.

What you will be doing:
- Perform weekly rail testing, observations, trainings, and locomotive download reviews to support the improvement of safety and operational performance
- Manage regional Safety Specialist meetings, partnering with Operations Leadership to enhance system ownership at each operation
- Regularly travel to the other operations within the region, supporting their growth in safety and operational performance
- Partner with the Operations Manager at each operation to review the performance of each Team Member through periodically scheduled meetings
- Attend customer meetings as needed
- Understand the Team Member training obligations and support the timely completion of training across the region
- Understand and teach the safety principles of the Savage Safe Driving Program (SPACE)
- Be an expert in safe rail operations
- Actively advocate for Team Members to recognize and reduce risk through frequent use of programs such as SHAPS, JHA's, Inspections, and Stop Work Obligation
- Be literate in Outlook, Excel, QualPro/FTX, Geotab, and Netradyne
- The position will work a 5-day/week schedule, flexing between day shift and night shift as needed to ensure multi-shift support
What you'll need to be successful:
- Rail experience 4-6 years
- High School or GED
- Strong skills in driving practices in all weather conditions
- For internal candidates, Lead Safety Specialist/Safety Specialist status and experience preferred
- Up-to-date MSHA certification preferred
- Excellent communication skills and ability to connect with all Team Members
- Natural ability to forge strong and positive relationships with others; must possess honesty and integrity and maintain confidentiality
- Must be willing to perform duties for all shifts (days and graves) at all operations, which may require working weekends occasionally
- Willingness to grow into future leadership positions, which may include relocation
- Must be self-motivated with a strong skill set to schedule and plan out tasks
- Strong organization, time management, and written communication skills
- Willing to travel out of town up to 10-15% of the time
