Here's a preview of what you'll be doing:
- Maintenance and operation the mechanical components of the railcars fleet
- Posting and completing work orders within the company specific computer data base
- Accurate completion of all required documentation (regulator and Internal)
- Working individually and collaboratively with the team
- Completing all training including regulatory compliance, safety, and all other designated training, as required (occasional out of province training is possible)
- Safely perform the essential functions of the job without posing a direct threat to the safety of his or her own self, or the safety of others
This is what we need from you:
- Basic understanding of the operation of industrial mobile equipment
- Thorough understanding of railcar mechanical operations, and associated components
- Basic understanding of the operation and maintenance of industrial mobile equipment, mechanical components of Maintenance of Way equipment
- Read, write, and understand English, follow written and/or verbal instruction, and possess basic math and computer skills
- Willingness to qualify in train operation and train handling
- Qualified in CROR considered an asset, for all aspects of rail car repair protection, and the protection of track work
- Coal handling railcar experience preferred
- Dependability in attendance
- Work holidays and weekends as needed
- Work rotating shift schedule and overtime when needed
Here are some of the minimum requirements for this role:
- High school diploma, minimum 18 years of age
- Accredited certification related to trade
- 1st, 2nd, or 3rd year welding apprenticeship
- 2-5 years of experience preferred but not required
- Read seal welder preferred
- Clear a criminal background check
Here are some of the physical requirements:
- Work outside in any weather condition
- Properly wear all required Personal Protect Equipment as deemed necessary by labour standards and Savage
- Clean shaven for the purposes of respirator and/or dust mask proper fit, and annual fit test
- Climb on and off the equipment, ascend and descend a ladder
- Work in an industrial environment containing coal dust, hazardous conditions, confined spaces, and hot/cold conditions
- Stand, kneel or crawl, and walk extensively throughout the day, sometimes on uneven terrain
- Frequently lift up to 50 lbs.
