At Savage, we pride ourselves on our exceptional safety record and our commitment to Team Member success. Our Safety Supervisor will support operations by leading the Savage's Safety, Health, and Environmental (SH&E) programs and training Team Members in industry best practices at our Detroit Handling and Transportation Operations. What You Will Be Doing: Works closely with Operations Managers and front-line Team Members in implementing all relevant portions of Savage's S7 Delivery System. Works with Savage's Service Support Center and Business Unit Leadership Team in the implementation of Savage's overall Safety Strategy. Works with the Sr. Manager- SH&E to develop training materials and resources for all safety-related training and, in some cases, will lead instructor-led training courses. Utilizes the S7i system to update the SH&E and Training as needed. Owns the tracking of all regulatory, customer, Savage, and site-specific training.  Ensures our newly hired Team Members are properly onboarded and assigned a Mentor as part of the Short Service Worker program. Supports Team Members in following proper safety rules and processes by completing daily Savage observations, customer field audits, and verifying completeness of JSAs and adherence to work-permit processes. Works with and supports the Safety Specialist and Lead Safety Specialist program. Performs and follows up on safety inspections, safety observations, and audits operation. Leads Savage team on customer safety audits. Works with customer(s) to understand their safety expectations and ensure a "No Worry" relationship in the safety areas. Responds timely and professionally to all customer requests. In the event of an incident, assists the Operations Manager to ensure the safety of everyone involved, completing a thorough incident investigation, post-incident drug screening, completion of the Root Cause Analysis, and ensuring corrective actions are sustained to eliminate repeat events. Attends industry networking events, workshops, training, etc. to continue developing skills and knowledge related to SH&E. Works to identify and implement industry-recognized best practices. Participates in host-sponsored contractor safety programs and will serve on the customer's Contractor Safety Committee. What You Need to Be Successful: Maintains current knowledge of rules, regulations, and compliance issues affecting the operation (OSHA, EPA, DOT, and FMCSA).  Possesses an understanding of and commitment to the Savage System. Demonstrates by example the safety standards and values of Savage. Able to work as a team, building the Savage safety culture at the operation. Understands or has been exposed to contractor safety programs, basic safety training for hazmat and chemicals, and customer safety policies. Ability to work with and perform computer operations (MS Office Suite). Ability to analyze situations and data and make sound decisions. Sets the standard for safety, professionalism, and performance. Has an “Ownership” spirit and has the ability to take projects and actions from the initial phase to completion.  Treats people fairly with dignity and respect and has impeccable integrity. Willing to travel overnight (10% of the time) Education/Experience: Previous PSM, refinery, conveyor, DOT, and heavy equipment experience Bachelor's degree in a safety-related field is preferred 3+ years working experience in industry SH&E certification preferred (ASP, CSP, GSP, STS, OHST, SMS) Ability to achieve ASP/CSP certification TWIC Card   Physical Requirements: Willing to receive hazardous material handling training, rail training, and general safety training In good physical condition (able to walk one (1) to two (2) miles per shift) Must be comfortable working at heights, working on barges, and able to climb ladders in excess of 200 feet Able to lift 50lbs    Must be able to pass a DISA background check and drug/alcohol screen
