What you will be doing: · Safely operate locomotives and trains inside a customer facility. · Make-up and break-up of unit trains. · Strong written and verbal communication skills. · Paperwork preparation associated with the movement of railcars. · Actively participate in safety programs, including involvement in routine safety meetings. · Understand and adhere to rail rules as prescribed by Savage, our customer, and the railroad. · A desire to learn the skills necessary to do the job safely. · Will have daily contact with fellow team members and Savage leadership. · Will have frequent contact with customers, railroad personnel, and members of the regional and unit leadership team. · Assisting with minor facility maintenance as necessary. Education/Experience: · Prefer 1 or more years of locomotive operating experience · A high school diploma, or equivalent · Ability to perform basic maintenance · Active Transportation Workers Identification Credential (TWIC card) or the ability to obtain one. · Ability to attend and pass all training associated with job related coursework. This includes but is not limited to: OSHA, HazMat and FRA related courses. · Willingness to wear required PPE · Ability to work rotating shifts, holidays and weekends · Work experience in an industrial environment · Ability to read, write and understand English · Clear drug / alcohol test / criminal background check Physical Requirements and Work Environment: · Able to complete the physical aspects of the job including opening and closing rail cars dome lids, climb mobile access racks (heights), crawl under rail cars, walk long distances on uneven terrain, etc. · Physically able to climb up and down railcars, ladders, and stairs safely; comfortable working at heights. · Ability to work outside in all weather conditions · Willing to work with liquid hazardous bulk materials · Can carry at least fifty (50) pounds and have ability to walk 1-2 miles on average each shift
