THE OPPORTUNITY:

As the Human Resources Manager you will work with the national human resources team and act as the lead resource for the human resources function in the Boston and Washington, D.C. office for both staff and attorneys. This position specifically focuses on Family Medical Leave of Absences (FMLA)/Short Term Disability and will oversee and administer leave requests and medical accommodations requiring specialized attention under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), state and local leave laws, and short-term disability plans. You will interpret and apply firm policies, processes and procedures and provide guidance on all aspects of the employee life cycle including integration of new employees, employee relations and performance management. This role is hybrid with four days per week in-office required.

THE DAY-TO-DAY:

On any given day, you will be working with firm leadership, the national human resources team, and other business colleagues.  You will be responsible for:

Leave of Absence Administrator Responsibilities:

  • Communicate with employees across our East Coast Offices regarding their needs for a leave of absence. Ensures that employees are aware of their responsibilities and of any documentation and notice required to qualify for and to take leave
  • Liaise with our third party vendor for leaves and communicating to the proper internal parties such as payroll and/or HRIS
  • Interpret and implement human resource policies and procedures for attorneys and support staff
  • Advise managers and employees on the interaction of leave laws with paid time off, workers compensation, and short-term and long-term disability benefits
  • Facilitate other leave requests, which may include accommodation requests under the ADA
  • Ensure compliance with local, state (MA PFML, etc.) and federal requirements and makes recommendations to current policies as necessary
  • Maintain complete and accurate records of leave and accommodation requests in accordance with specified legal requirements and documentation of best practices.

    HR Manager Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with Office Administrator and Office Managing Partners on supervision and performance management for support staff and paralegals and assist with salary and bonus recommendations
  • Provide guidance to supervisors for human resource employee management including counseling, coaching, employee development and retention, warnings and performance improvement plans and termination recommendations
  • Supervise and mentor junior HR staff
  • Work in collaboration with the National Staff Recruiting team on local staff hiring
  • Work collaboratively with the national HR team on matters such as compensation, health, welfare, retirement, employee relations, HRIS, leave management, recruiting, the staff and paralegal evaluation process, and Kronos
  • Manage new hire orientation, onboarding and staff integration process
  • Manage offboarding for both voluntary and involuntary terminations; conduct exit interviews
  • Human resource documentation and process management, including personnel action forms, payroll forms, unemployment claims and various reports

YOU HAVE:

7+ years of experience in Human Resources preferably in professional services with a strong background in leave of absence administration, employment law, employee management, health and welfare benefit programs, full cycle recruiting, Workday and Excel.

An undergraduate degree or related experience, preferably in a related field such as business administration or human resources.

Previous supervisory and performance management experience

Four days per week in-office required
