THE OPPORTUNITY:

The National Conflicts Manager establishes and manages processes in the Conflicts department while providing leadership for department staff.  They ensure a high level of customer service in the areas of new business and lateral hire conflicts clearance.  They create and promote an environment where researchers and analysts operate in a team setting.

THE DAY-TO-DAY:

  • Supervise and mentor the Conflicts Supervisor, Senior Conflicts Analysts, Conflicts Analysts and Conflicts Researchers to provide service according to conflicts of interest principles, department procedures and Firm business needs.
  • Create and implement a structured training program for all direct reports based upon the position's responsibilities and in accordance with conflicts of interest principles and department standard operating procedures.
  • Provide detailed written evaluations of conflicts personnel work products. Identify training issues and design appropriate training plans to overcome identified issues.
  • Develop and implement appropriate quality controls and conflicts workflow to ensure consistency and accuracy among staff according to position responsibilities.
  • Manage daily personnel-related matters including scheduling, training/coaching and disciplinary action.
  • Review and approve weekly timesheets and PTO requests.
  • Perform team personnel annual reviews.
  • Evaluate information about potential new business and make decisions on strategies for conflicts searches and data management based on prevailing conflicts of interest rules.
  • Exercise judgment in complex situations to implement the firm's risk management priorities.
  • Guide research staff in balancing competing priorities to deliver excellent customer service in a fast-paced, demanding environment.
  • Review work of research staff for accuracy and completeness according to department procedures and standards. Provide clear verbal and written feedback regarding any work quality deficiencies.
  • Work with conflicts personnel, Client Matter Intake (CMI) staff, Director of Conflicts & Business Intake, and Compliance & Business Intake Manager to manage the overall client matter intake process in an efficient and productive manner.
  • Develop expert skills in current conflicts database software and use these skills to oversee effective training of Conflicts research staff. This includes identifying and sharing best practices for use of conflicts software.
  • Ensure effective and appropriate use of commercial research tools and databases according to the research assignment. Stay abreast of new commercial research tools and industry trends.
  • Analyze statistical data to develop and implement work effiencies based on factors such as conflicts requests by area of law, available technology and personnel resources.

    YOU HAVE:

  • Juris Doctor Preferred
  • Supervisory experience preferred
  • Knowledge of relevant firm computer software programs (e.g., Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint), with the ability to learn new software and operating systems
  • Demonstrates effective interpersonal and communication skills, both verbally and in writing
  • Demonstrates close attention to detail
  • Ability to handle sensitive matters and maintain confidentiality
  • Ability to handle multiple assignments and shifting priorities
  • Ability to organize and prioritize work
  • Ability to work well in a demanding and fast-paced environment
  • Ability to work independently as well as effectively within a team
  • Demonstrates a commitment to quality of finished product
  • Ability to problem solve
  • Understanding of the ABA Model Rules of Professional Conduct and familiarity with the ethics rules of any jurisdictions in which the firm maintains an office.
  • Strong client service skills
  • Ability to research, analyze, and synthesize information
  • Advanced knowledge of Intapp Open (or other legal conflicts software) and Elite (or other legal financial system)
  • Advanced leadership and team management skills
