Description
Smyth is seeking candidates who are mechanically inclined, who have demonstrated skills of break-fix in their work and life environment. Individuals who have a passion to make things work, the ability to problem-solve through situational analysis, by breaking it down and determining route cause, which enables the machine to the operator in the most effective manner.
Our Machine Operator's main responsibilities include the operation of either the Laminator or Pouch Machine. The Machine Operator will have overall responsibility for the machines including set-ups, output, and maintenance. Operators must obey all facility and department guidelines and expectations. Other duties and functions may be assigned on an as-needed basis.
Shift Available: 2nd Shift, Monday-Friday, 1pm-9pm
Compensation is based on skills and experience.

- Have a strong mechanical aptitude that enables effective operation of our pouch machines
- Ability to work closely with teams/departments to create an environment that supports workflow.
- Ability to engage in areas of continuous improvement and sustainability initiatives in finishing.
- Ability to work safely, abide by, and promote established safety policies and procedures. Identify and follow up to ensure unsafe conditions are managed.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Must have the ability to think through the mechanical aspects of equipment operations and decision making, such as performing change over's, changing paper rolls, and removing splices.
- Must have the ability to do visual quality inspections, perform quality testing, system data entry, and ensure appropriate records are maintained.
- Must have the ability to ensure machine performance, troubleshoot equipment, and product issues.
- Must have the ability to sort and package end products.
- Able to manage time effectively on multiple long and short-term projects simultaneously, meeting all related deadlines.
- Able to understand and help further enhance current business systems, processes, and workflows.
- Able to endure long periods of standing, which also involves movement in and around the work area and machines required.
- Able to display high levels of customer service, responding promptly and thoroughly to the inquiries and needs of individuals both internal and external to the organization.
- Must have good math, reading, writing skills, and have the ability to tactfully communicate to customers and employees of all levels of the company.
- Good interpersonal, collaboration, and relationship-building skills to effectively work with a diverse group/variety of people and personalities.
- Work safety and proactively to ensure a safe work environment.
Education, Experience, and Credentials:
- High School degree or equivalent preferred.
- Prior experience in a converting environment is preferred.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Computer skills and knowledge required.
- Pre-employment physical testing is required.
- Good motor skills, dexterity mechanical, and analytical skills are a plus.
- Flexibility in their work schedule (nights, weekends, OT).
- Previous experience with Lean Manufacturing and ISO quality systems is preferred.
