The Joint, Office of the Secretary of Defense, Interagency Division provides expert support services to a range of customers spanning across the Department of Defense, Federal Civilian, and international markets. JOID provides a diverse portfolio of analytical and programmatic capabilities to help our customers make informed decisions on their most challenging issues.

 

SPA provides critical decision support to enabling and executing a strategy of technological superiority and enabling the delivery and sustainment of secure, resilient, and preeminent capabilities to the warfighter quickly and cost effectively. Our team of experienced military, technical, and operations research analysts is skilled in evaluating military problems, identifying the driving factors, devising innovative approaches, collecting applicable data, developing necessary software tools, and performing thorough and timely assessments to inform technology and acquisition governance decisions to ensure U.S. military forces retain military superiority in the future.

 

We have an immediate need for a Commercial Strategy Pipeline Analyst to provide onsite support out of Arlington, VA.


Responsibilities

We are seeking a Commercial Strategy Pipeline Analyst to support management of over 50 DARPA performer companies through regular, structured check-ins to monitor health, key milestones, and overall progress. This candidate will coordinate outreach on behalf of the pipeline team to garner new opportunities for the office to include strategic outreach to program managers according to priority areas of interest, scheduling regular meetings, and setting up meeting spaces to facilitate hybrid meetings. Proactively engage with performer companies and discover opportunities to assist in greater connections across the DoW or general inquiries as they arise during the program execution. Prioritize timely correspondence based on urgency and importance to stay on top of changes to schedule, contracting, or performer company assistance. Maintain detailed, accurate, up-to-date information and on all pipeline operations and performer company meeting notes within the CRM tool. Collaborate across the DARPA Commerical Strategy Office team and broader agency to execute the day-to-day pipeline operations. Support the identification of commercialization pathways for transformational technologies using your network, business development skills, and market and economic assessment capabilities. Collaborate with DARPA's top technical and business talent to experiment with new approaches (program structure, funding mechanisms, talent selection, agency strategy, etc.) for advancing early-stage transformational technologies. Support and advise PMs, SETAs, and performers on market analysis and go-to-market strategies including product-market fit, business planning, product development, and supply chain management. Brainstorm creative mechanisms to improve processes and workflows across the Commercial Strategy team and prepare and deliver executive-level briefings to a wide range of government, corporate, and investor audiences.

 


Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree with 5+ years of experience
  • Active Secret clearance
  • Experience supporting technology commercialization that resulted in products or services being used in DoW or commercial markets; direct experience commercializing dual-use technologies
  • Experience with CRM tools such as Salesforce, HubSpot, or Microsoft Dynamics
  • Demonstrated experience with project management and market creation activities including identification of commercialization pathways for new technologies and development of go-to-market strategies
  • Prior experience with market research, technoeconomic and financial analysis, product development, and/or manufacturing and supply chain management
  • Proven ability to transform minimal or initial meeting details into a comprehensive analysis or presentation, showcasing initiative and analytical thinking
  • Expertise in at least two of the DoW critical technology areas
  • Experience with innovation, research, and development planning
  • Knowledge of startup culture and early-stage investments
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to take initiative in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and to work cross-functionally and support multiple stakeholders
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Teams
  • Excellent execution and management of multiple tasks simultaneously with a strong attention to detail
  • Ability to travel up to 10% of the time
  • Ability to work fully onsite based on client needs

Desired:

  • Active TS/SCI clearance
  • Technical backgrounds (i.e. engineering, technology development, or scientific research)
  • Strong knowledge of DoW organizational structure and processes
  • Previous DoW transition experience or dual-use commercialization experience at a venture, private equity, or early-stage technology company
  • Prior experience analyzing dual-use technologies across global markets
  • Direct exposure to DoW acquisition processes including OTAs, SBIRS, CSOs, or other non-traditional contracting vehicles
  • Existing relationships across primes, defense innovation organizations
  • Prior experience supporting portfolio management for a large organization

Pay Range Information

At SPA, we strive to deliver a robust total compensation package that will attract and retain top talent. Elements of the compensation package include competitive base pay and variable compensation opportunities. SPA provides eligible employees with an opportunity to enroll in a variety of benefit programs, generally including health insurance, flexible spending accounts, health savings accounts, retirement savings plans, life and disability insurance programs, and a number of programs that provide for both paid and unpaid time away from work. The specific programs and options available to any given employee may vary depending on eligibility factors such as geographic location, date of hire, etc. Please note that the salary information shown below is a general guideline only. Salaries are commensurate with experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations. Virginia, Pay Transparency Salary range: USD $138,000.00/Yr. - USD $168,000.00/Yr.
