MAINTENANCE SUPERVISOR

The Maintenance Supervisor plans and administers the maintenance systems to ensure that machinery, tooling, and the facility are maintained to minimize equipment downtime and repair costs. 

The supervisor leads a team of 5-10 maintenance personnel. 


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Participates in departmental manpower planning and staffing decisions.
  • Conducts annual performance appraisals of each department employee and recommends performance increases, retraining, transfer, or termination. 
  • Communicates Maintenance Department goals to departmental personnel.
  • Works with other departments to maintain a high value on employee relations, teambuilding, employee motivation, and a safe workforce. 
  • Responsible for maintaining facility environmental records in collaboration with the EHS Manager and ensuring maintenance systems adhere to local, state, and national regulations and statutes.
  • Responsible for coordinating a preventive maintenance system to minimize repair cost and prevent equipment failures. 
  • The Maintenance Supervisor ensures that major equipment is maintained in safe, operable condition and/or arrange for replacement.
  • Communicates with Production, Materials, Engineering, and HR Departments to repair equipment failures and remedy unsafe conditions. 
  • Responsible for assigning work to maintenance personnel while taking into account the maintenance knowledge/skills/abilities needed to complete a work assignment. 
  • Assist team members in determining 'on-the-job' working procedures and in resolving technical problems of the assignment. 
  • Responsible for maintaining a record of maintenance performed.
  • Assists in the decision when to outsource maintenance work and who to outsource it to.
  • Works with Engineering, Materials, and Production Department in matters of facility layout and new equipment installation.
  • Assist in securing major equipment bids and makes recommendations for purchase when replacement or new equipment is required.
  • Works with the Quality Department to ensure the maintenance processes meet IATF 2016:16949 standards.
  • Participates in and supports the principles of Open Book Management.
  • Participates in developing and managing the Maintenance Department's annual budget. 


WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Work is performed with exposure to harsh conditions such as: dust, fumes, noise, and varying temperatures for extended periods of time. All employees are required to follow safety standards and wear all personal protective equipment in designated areas.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential function of this job. While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to walk, stand, use hands to finger, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl and talk and hear.   Sitting 20%, standing/walking 80%.    Frequently lift and or move up to 30 pounds and 50 pounds occasionally.  

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
Ideal candidates will have a proven track record of reliability. They will have motivation and drive to get the job done. They will be enthusiastic workers interested in growth and improvement. Other requirements include:

  • High School diploma or GED is required.  AA/AS in Maintenance Technology, Engineering, or related discipline preferred.
  • Five (5) years of previous maintenance experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Previous experience leading a team of maintenance technicians required
  • Working experience with welding, electrical, plumbing, equipment installation, hydraulics, and air powered equipment. 
  • Ability to be certified on company forktruck equipment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills with ability to communicate difficult messages or messages of change to departmental employees.
  • Self-assured and confident in a variety of settings.  Has a strong belief in own capabilities and high level of energy and motivation.
  • Must have the ability to multi-task by balancing/prioritizing 5-10 projects/cases at any given time.
  • Requires effective relationship management skills with co-workers in a team environment.
  • Requires effective time management skills, personal conduct, and change management abilities.
  • Computer literacy/experience required. Working knowledge of word processing, PowerPoint, spreadsheets, e-mail, and Web-enabled applications.
