Manager, Software Engineering

Location(s): Kansas City, MO - Remote

Get To Know the Team

The person who takes this role will be responsible for a span of ~16 people inside 3 engineering teams made up of 2 product development teams and one break/fix team.  You will manage 1 team lead (who runs one of the product dev teams) and 10 developers making up the other 2 teams.  You will have assistance from a release manager and scrum master.  All members of the team are located in the United States and Canada however other members of the products you support and work with are located in India, Thailand, United Kingdom, and United States.

• Manage engineering teams and own accountability for the design and code quality of components, applications, solutions and systems.

• Lead, support and grow multiple project development teams.     
• Create technical vision and strategy for assigned project teams in alignment with the organization's business objectives.
• Translate business problems into functional work estimates with interdependencies across project teams for current and future projects.   
• Partner with solution owner to build solution roadmap.   
• Anticipate strategic and scaling-related challenges through short-term planning.   
• Propose and lead process improvement projects within and outside current scope. 
• Demonstrate broad thought leadership and influence through sharing knowledge outside team through mentorship, coaching, technical talks and blogs.   
• Lead, direct and review the team's work to achieve operational or functional targets or objectives with measurable contribution towards the achievement of immediate and short-term results for the team and department.
• Establish and communicate team goals that support and advance team and department objectives; establish metrics or other performance measures to track progress.
• Understand and explain policies, practices and procedures within immediate area of responsibility to stakeholders within and outside of the team.
• Identify, propose and lead team- and department-level quality and process improvement initiatives; participate and provide input on strategic initiatives at the department-level.
• Deliver consistent and timely training, guidance and feedback to encourage and promote associate success and growth through regular developmental conversations and identification of developmental opportunities.
• Provide primary input and recommendations on staffing and performance decisions for direct reports.
• Manage a team of associates.
