Company BackgroundCalastone is the largest global funds network, connecting the world's leading financial organisations. Our mission is to reduce complexity, risk and costs, enabling the industry to deliver greater value to investors. More than 4,500 clients in 58 countries and territories benefit from Calastone's services, processing over £250 billion of investment value each month. Calastone is headquartered in London with offices in Luxembourg, Hong Kong, Taipei, Singapore, New York, Sydney, and India.
Role PurposeReporting to a senior member of the QA team, the QA Engineer will be primarily responsible for accessibility testing across Calastone's client-facing web applications, ensuring compliance with WCAG 2.1/2.2 (Level AA) standards and delivering an inclusive user experience.
The role combines automated accessibility testing using Playwright with Axe integration, and manual accessibility evaluation using WAVE and Axe Chrome browser extensions. As a secondary focus, the role provides a pathway into broader UI test automation using Playwright — a highly transferable skill that strengthens both the individual's career and the team's overall automation capability.
The QA team uses AI-augmented workflows (Claude Code, MCP integrations) to accelerate test design, execution, and defect analysis. You will be expected to adopt these tools as part of your day-to-day work.
Key Responsibilities Accessibility Testing (Primary Focus)- Build and maintain automated accessibility test suites using Playwright + Axe (@axe-core/playwright), integrated into the CI/CD pipeline.
- Perform manual accessibility audits using WAVE and Axe Chrome extensions, covering keyboard navigation, colour contrast, ARIA attributes, focus management, and screen reader compatibility.
- Triage and document accessibility defects with WCAG success criteria references and remediation guidance.
- Collaborate with front-end developers and UX designers to identify and fix accessibility barriers early in the development cycle.
- Champion accessibility best practices and contribute to internal standards documentation.
- Develop and maintain Playwright-based UI test automation including functional, visual regression, and cross-browser testing.
- Build reusable page object models and test fixtures using C# and BDD tools (Reqnroll/SpecFlow).
- Automate REST API testing using Playwright or HttpClient.
- Support CI/CD integration via GitHub Actions.
- Use AI coding agents (Claude Code) and MCP server integrations to accelerate test creation, defect triage, and impact analysis.
- Contribute to prompt engineering and refinement of QA AI skills.
- Work with Engineering, Product, Operations, and DevOps teams to understand testing needs and priorities.
- Share knowledge and promote best practices across the QA team.
- Partner with developers to identify, document, and resolve defects.
- Accessibility testing certification — IAAP CPACC, IAAP WAS, or equivalent recognised credential.
- Practical accessibility testing experience — hands-on auditing of web applications against WCAG 2.1/2.2 (Level AA) using Axe, WAVE, keyboard navigation, and screen readers (NVDA).
- Proficient with Axe Chrome DevTools and WAVE browser extensions, and familiar with integrating Axe into automated pipelines.
- UI test automation experience using Playwright (strongly preferred), Selenium WebDriver, or Cypress with maintainable page object models.
- Strong object-oriented programming skills in C# (preferred) or Java, with experience using BDD tools (Reqnroll/SpecFlow).
- Experience using AI coding assistants (Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, or similar) to generate or enhance code.
- Knowledge of CI/CD practices with GitHub Actions (YAML).
- Strong grasp of QA methodologies, agile processes, and software testing principles.
- Clear communicator, effective with both technical and business stakeholders in a distributed team.
- Deep knowledge of ARIA roles, states, and properties and interaction with assistive technologies (NVDA, JAWS, VoiceOver).
- Experience integrating accessibility checks into CI/CD pipelines as automated quality gates.
- Experience with visual regression testing (Playwright visual comparisons, Percy, or Applitools).
- Experience testing within financial technology (XML, JSON, FIX, SFTP, Swift messaging formats).
- Familiarity with MCP (Model Context Protocol) integrations and AI agent workflows.
- Understanding of European Mutual Funds and/or ETF markets.
- SQL query skills and relational database experience.
- Experience with Kubernetes, Datadog, or Azure Service Bus/AKS environments.
- ISTQB certification (or equivalent).
- Passionate about accessibility and inclusive design — advocates for users with disabilities.
- Committed to quality, continuous improvement, and coding best practices.
- Curious about AI and emerging technologies with a proactive mindset.
- Calm, focused, and effective under pressure with strong analytical skills.
- Collaborative in multidisciplinary, geographically distributed agile teams.
- Takes ownership, follows issues to root cause, and delivers results independently.
- Communicates clearly and confidently, both in writing and verbally.
- Adapts quickly to change and embraces innovation.
