Overview

SS&C's Digital team delivers modern, customer-centric financial applications across Funds, Wealth, and Life & Pensions. As we scale our next-generation digital products, seamless integration with complex financial platforms is critical.

We are seeking a Systems Integration Engineer who will own the design, mapping, documentation, and validation of integrations between our front-end digital applications and core financial services platforms used across the business.

This role sits at the intersection of engineering, product, and architecture, ensuring that data flows, APIs, and integration touchpoints are clearly defined, scalable, and robust.

Key Responsibilities

Integration Design & Mapping

• Analyse current and target-state systems to define integration requirements.
• Map data structures, payloads, and message flows between front-end applications and back-end financial systems.
• Produce detailed interface specifications including:
  • API endpoints
  • Request/response schemas
  • Authentication and security requirements
  • Error-handling patterns
  • Event or message triggers

Documentation & Technical Specifications

• Create high-quality technical documents for engineering teams to implement integrations.
• Maintain API and system interface documentation using industry-standard formats (e.g., Swagger/OpenAPI, sequence diagrams, architecture diagrams).
• Ensure integration specs align with SS&C's internal standards and architectural guidelines.

Cross-Team Collaboration

• Work closely with front-end engineers, back-end platform teams, architects, and product owners.
• Serve as a technical bridge between Digital delivery teams and SS&C's broader platform ecosystem.
• Participate in refinement sessions to clarify integration behaviours and edge cases.

Technical Validation

• Support engineering teams during development to ensure integrations are built as designed.
• Assist with troubleshooting integration-related issues during testing and production rollout.
• Validate API behaviours against specifications, including performance, reliability, and error responses.

Governance & Quality

• Ensure integrations meet regulatory, security, and compliance requirements for financial services.
• Contribute to the development of integration standards and best practices across the Digital organisation.

Skills & Experience Required

Technical Skills

• Strong understanding of API design principles (REST, JSON, XML, Webhooks, OAuth 2.0, JWT).
• Experience mapping integrations involving complex financial systems, core platforms, and/or third-party providers.
• Familiarity with back-end financial systems (e.g., transfer agency, wealth platforms, pensions systems) beneficial.
• Ability to read and interpret system logs, API traces, and error payloads.
• Knowledge of common integration patterns (synchronous, asynchronous, event-driven, messaging queues).

Tools & Frameworks

• Experience with API documentation tools (Swagger/OpenAPI, Postman).
• Ability to produce technical diagrams (sequence diagrams, flowcharts, architecture diagrams).
• Understanding of integration middleware or iPaaS tools (e.g., MuleSoft, Boomi, Workato) is a plus.

Soft Skills

• Strong communicator able to translate complex technical concepts clearly.
• Comfortable working across multi-national engineering teams (UK, India, Romania, Australia).
• Detail-oriented, organised, and able to drive alignment between teams.
• Problem-solving mindset, especially around ambiguous integration scenarios.

Qualifications

• Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or equivalent experience.
• Professional certifications in integration technologies or cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) are advantageous but not required.
