Overview

The Department of Buildings and General Services (BGS) is seeking a Custodian II to join the Operations and Maintenance team; a division dedicated to maintaining clean, safe, and functional facilities across Vermont's state government.

 

This position involves custodial cleaning and minor maintenance tasks primarily within the McFarland State Office Building, but work in other facilities in Barre may be required. Responsibilities include general cleaning duties, care of floors, use and upkeep of floorcare equipment, and management of custodial supplies. 

 

This position will work Monday through Friday, 4am to 12:30pm. Successful completion of a criminal background check and a valid driver's license are required.

 

BGS plays a key role in supporting the operations of state agencies by providing well-maintained spaces for employees and the public. Environmental Factors

Duties are performed during an assigned shift at one or more state owned or leased buildings. Cleaning work often involves addressing bloodborne pathogens and other potentially infections material. Incumbents must be able to work outdoors in all types of weather. Good physical condition and ability to climb ladders and lift weights of up to 50-lbs. is necessary. Overtime and evening work may be required. 

Minimum Qualifications

One (1) year or more of building custodial work that includes floor maintenance tasks such as stripping and waxing floors and carpet extraction.

OR

One (1) year as a BGS Custodian I.
 

Special Requirements

Some positions in this class require a valid driver's license and own transportation for travel between work locations. 

Candidates must pass any level of background investigation applicable to the position.
