Overview
The Vermont Division of Fire Safety is seeking a team-orientated licensed master plumber to join our team as a Plumbing & Heating Inspector in our Williston Regional Office. This position will be tasked with conducting field-based inspections of plumbing installations in new construction and existing buildings. The ideal candidate must be able to multitask efficiently and have strong computer and technical skills along with extensive plumbing code knowledge. Work is performed with considerable independence under the supervision of the Regional Manager.
Duties will include, but are not limited to:
- Performing inspections of plumbing installations to confirm compliance with the plumbing code
- Providing plumbing code support to field-based fire inspectors and plans examiners
- Investigation of complaints alleging improper or unsafe plumbing installations
- Performing inspections of gas and oil piping systems
- Performing inspections of hydronic heating systems and associated appliances
- Providing advisement to the State Plumbers Licensing Examining Board as requested

PUBLIC SAFETY BACKGROUND CHECKS: Candidates must pass any level of background investigation applicable to the position to include Motor Vehicle/Criminal Records, Personal History, Credit and any additional background check(s).
Environmental FactorsDuties are performed in both an office and field setting involving a variety of construction and or renovation sites. An incumbent may expect to encounter physical conditions found at such sites, including exposure to potential danger, injury, and inclement weather. A large amount of travel between job sites is required for which private means of transportation may be required. The inspection enforcement nature of the work may result in situations where strong and differing opinions will arise, criticism of governmental regulations will be expressed, and potentially evasive actions attempted. Field duties may require work in contaminated environments, which require protective clothing and equipment.
Minimum QualificationsThree (3) years of experience in plumbing inspection, engineering, or building trades.
OR
ICC Plumbing Inspector Certification.
Preferred QualificationsAssociates degree or higher in engineering, environmental safety, industrial health or physical science.
Special RequirementsSuccessful applicants must achieve natural and propane gas and oil burner certificate of fitness within one (1) year of employment.
All candidates must pass a security clearance conducted by the Department of Public Safety, including a motor vehicle and criminal background check.
