Overview

The Newport Office of HireAbility Vermont is recruiting for a temporary, part-time skilled rehabilitation/career counselor with an ability to support consumers ages 14 to 24 years old with physical, psychological, or cognitive disabilities in their efforts to access careers and gain employment.

 

Job duties include

  • Assessment, guidance, and counseling
  • Working with employment staff to secure employment and work experiences
  • Case management
  • Documentation
  • Collaboration with many community providers; including high schools, vocational training center and college staff

 

Candidates must possess a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Rehabilitation Counseling, Counseling, Social Work, Psychology or Special Education, and special conditions apply. Excellent computer skills are required.

Who May Apply

This position, Vocational Rehabilitation Associate Counselor- Temporary (Job Requisition #51008), is open to all State employees and external applicants. This is a temporary position. Temporary work is typically for variable hours, and is not expected to be full-time. The State does not guarantee 40 hours of work per week.

Environmental Factors

Duties are performed primarily within a standard office setting. Some travel may be required to consumer homes and work sites, for which private means of transportation must be available.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree or higher AND two (2) or more years at or above a paraprofessional or technical level in a human services program, involving direct client contact.

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor's degree or higher in a human services field. 

Special Requirements

Successful applicants will be required to make a written commitment to secure, within five years of hire, a master's degree in a field approved by the Department.

Candidates must pass any level of background investigation applicable to the position. In accordance with AHS Policy 4.02, Hiring Standards, Vermont and/or national criminal record checks, as well as DMV and adult and child abuse registry checks, as appropriate to the position under recruitment, will be conducted on candidates, with the exception of those who are current classified state employees seeking transfer, promotion or demotion into an AHS classified position or are persons exercising re-employment (RIF) rights.
