Overview

The Vermont Department of Labor's Northwest Region, nestled along Lake Champlain and the Lake Champlain Islands, is seeking a District Manager. We are seeking an individual who is passionate about supporting the improvement of working Vermonters lives and ensuring the businesses in Vermont are aware of the programs and services available for utilization. 


The right person will approach each day with compassion, flexibility, and an open mind. The department strives for operational excellence and creativity in the methods used within federal guidelines to support employers, job seekers, and community partners. 
Reporting to the Assistant Director for Services and Field Operations, the District Manager will provide daily communication to a team of individuals who strive to support all who seek our services. The ability to lead, actively listen, and problem solve is of the utmost importance.

 

The District Manager will monitor regional safety, hours of operation, training funds, oversee allocations/expenditures all while determining the overall distribution of support services ensuring effective service delivery throughout the region. 
The right candidate will be well versed in the economic and workforce needs of urban and rural communities and be naturally oriented to collaboration and coordination needed to establish and maintain effective working relationships with partner agencies; helping to ensure service gaps and emergent needs are effectively addressed. 
The District Manager will be responsible for providing feedback on program performance and making suggestions for improvements to leadership. As well as conducting staff performance evaluations, hiring, and training activities. 
The Department of Labor is a proud partner of the American Job Center Network and is the state identified One-Stop ensuring the requirements for this title are met is also a primary responsibility.

Environmental Factors

Duties are performed primarily in a standard office setting. Substantial travel will be required to regional offices, employer premises and to community meetings, for which private means of transportation must be available. Considerable interaction with public and private groups throughout the districts will be required. Work outside of normal office hours should be expected.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in human services, human resources, business administration, management or public or non- profit administration AND three (3) years progressively responsible experience in employment services, economic development, or public, business or personnel administration, including two (2) years or more in a supervisory or managerial role.

OR

Associate's degree in human services, human resources, business administration, management or public administration AND five (5) years progressively responsible experience in employment services, economic development, non-profit or public, business or personnel administration, including two (2) years or more in a supervisory or managerial role.

OR

High School diploma or equivalent AND seven (7) years progressively responsible experience in employment services, economic development, or public, business or personnel administration, including four (4) years or more in a supervisory or managerial role.

Special Requirements

Travel between resource centers is expected for which your own means of transportation is required.
