About Community Life

Community Life (CL) is The Community Builders (TCB)'s place-based model that uses healthy and stable housing as a platform for connecting our residents to services, community resources and opportunities so they can thrive. By creating programs and building strategic partnerships with residents and local stakeholders, CL helps create pathways to opportunities in early education, economic mobility, youth development, community engagement, voting registration, healthy living, and resident leadership.

Position Description:

From Our Doors to Yours ( ODTY) is a TCB innovation that opens a new door to the American Dream of homeownership and generational wealth through our portfolio of affordable apartments and starter home pipeline. TCB Financial Coordinators (FC) trained in Mobility Mentoring, help residents through a housing journey that boosts their credit scores, recaptures rent increases with HUD FSS escrow savings accounts, and connects with down payment assistance. Reporting to the District Manager, the FC will focus on financial assistance, resident outreach and recruitment into this initiatives various financial mobility programs including but not limited to rent reporting for credit building (RRCB), financial counseling and coaching, and Family Self Sufficiency (FSS), and home buying. The FC will be able to articulate the various financial programs to residents, as well as provide resources and connections to financial partners and provide supports to residents to access and register for these various financial programs. This is a 2-year funded position which will be extended based on new funding.

EssentialFunctions:

  • Assess residents interest in preparing for homeownership, which may include implementing the Fannie Mae Assessing Homebuyer Readiness tool, as well as the ODTY Homebuyer Survey.
  • Use Mobility Mentoring to increase residents motivation to participate in financial counseling and coaching programs.
  • Work with eligible FSS program residents to enroll, complete resident surveys, COPs, and the individual training and services plans that are associated with the program.
  • Explain to residents how RRCB works, which includes working with the CLSC to meet with residents with rent arrearages.
  • Use various forms of marketing and outreach to meet the various financial program enrollments and participation goals.
  • Ability to clearly articulate the various financial programs including aiding residents in accessing and registering for them.
  • Participate in the ODTY outreach and recruitment media campaign.
  • Help coordinate meetings, space, events, workshops, trainings, etc. relevant to the financial programs.
  • Build relationships with residents to better understand their needs and aspirations and connect them with the local resources and opportunities.
  • Connect with financial and workforce partners to support residents financial goals.
  • Weekly enter data into CL Connect to document services provided to residents and outcomes achieved.
  • Attend FSS and Mobility Mentoring trainings and continue education opportunities related to the financial programs and others offered by the Community Life or partners.
  • Support the collection of the annual Community Life Questionnaire.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Verbal and written fluency in English
  • Ability to understand and respect values, attitudes, and beliefs that differ across cultures and to respond appropriately to these differences with residents in planning, implementing, and evaluating programs and services.
  • Capable of building and maintaining positive relationships with a wide variety of stakeholders, including but not limited to residents, senior staff, volunteers, interns, and community partners.
  • Ability to create outreach and marketing materials using Publisher or other design programs.
  • Operate in a timely manner, with consistency and a high level of integrity and professionalism; provide excellent customer service to residents and partners.
  • Excellent communication, organization and writing skills.
Education & Experience:
  • Associates degree preferred with a focus in social work, human services, public health, community development, or related field, or a combination of education and experience.
  • 1 year of financial coaching and counseling experience is required.
  • Demonstrated experience in previous engagement, communication, and collaboration with people of diverse socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds.
  • Proficiency with MS Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Publisher, Outlook, and other computer programs
  • Practiced in program outreach, enrollment, and file management.
  • Experience working with partners and site team members to implement programs and initiatives.
  • Knowledge of Yardi, Property Management databases, or CL Dynamics is a plus.
