Overview

BlueWater Federal is seeking a talented LAN Technician to support the Department of Energy in Washington, DC.


Responsibilities

  • Install telecommunication hardware, including copper and fiber cabling. (E.g., Category 5/5e/6, single-mode fiber(OS1, OS2), multi-mode fiber (OM1 – OM5))
  • Maintain telecommunications equipment, installs/rearranges/removes equipment and associated wiring
  • Read and interpret circuit diagrams and electrical schematics
  • Provide after-hour support during possible mandatory overtime, to include some evenings and weekends, works between various sites in Washington, DC and surrounding areas
  • Complete service orders as required
  • Perform routine maintenance as needed
  • Troubleshoot connectivity issues; Test and repair equipment as needed
  • Organize, terminate, and test cables or components

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of overall related experience with Bachelor's or 14+ without Bachelor's
  • 2+ years of related telecommunications experience
  • 2+ years of experience with voice, video, and data cabling circuits/standards: Analog/digital circuits; POTS (Plain Old Telephone Service) standards; PRI (Primary Rate Interface) service standards; BRI (Basic Rate Interface) service standards. TIA/EIA 568A/B cabling standards
  • 2+ years of hands-on experience with the following tools: RJ-45 cable crimper, stripper, and cutter; RG-6 cable crimper (F connectors), stripper, and cutter; Visual fault locator (VFL); Fluke cable tester (copper, fiber); UniCam fiber termination kit; Punch-down tool
  • Must have the ability to work with a variety of power tools (i.e. drill, screwdriver, etc.)
  • Must have the ability to work on a ladder for extended periods
  • Must have the ability to lift at least 50 pounds without assistance
  • Must have an active Top-Secret clearance; highly desired is a TS with SSBI within last 2 years or Q clearance or SCI
