Overview

Bluewater Federal is looking for a Sr Unix/Linux Systems Administrator to support the Department of the Navy, Naval Sea Systems Command, The Naval Surface Warfare Center Dahlgren Division (NSWCDD).


Responsibilities

  • Lead administration and life‑cycle operations for UNIX/Linux platforms supporting RDT&E/HPC environments and enterprise services across classified/unclassified networks; ensure compliance with DoD/Navy directives, STIGs, and RMF while maximizing availability, resiliency, and performance.
  • Administer UNIX/Linux OSs (e.g., Red Hat, RedHawk, HPUX, Solaris, AIX, CentOS) and associated server hardware architectures; build, configure, patch, secure, and document systems.
  • Provide HPC cluster and high‑performance workstation support (install/configure, O&M, performance tuning, data protection, backup/recovery; vendor coordination)
  • Manage SAN/NAS/storage fabrics (e.g., NetApp, Vast, Dell EMC, Synology, Quantum); implement DR strategies and verify bare‑metal restores (e.g., Networker, Clonezilla)
  • Execute vulnerability remediation, STIG checklist maintenance, antivirus signature updates; maintain A&A/RMF documentation
  • Perform user/account management (LDAP/AD), IMACs, baseline imaging, and ticket documentation within SLA. Support test/training events and coordinate maintenance with network engineers.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of professional experience in relation to UNIX and/or Linux system administration of networks and software systems.
  • Must have a Security+ certification
  • Must have an active Top Secret clearance
  • Experience in system backup/recovery, basic software management, security and library management, installation and configuration of hardware, operating systems and COTS software, operating computer systems in different operating environments, sizing, performance, tuning, hardware/software/network troubleshooting and resource allocation.
  • Experience in maintaining proficiency in major network security tools such as firewalls.
  • Experience developing system specifications and performing market research procurement tasks.
  • Experience with different network protocols including TCP/IP.
  • Experience of computing and networking vulnerabilities
  • Deep experience in enterprise UNIX/Linux administration across u/c‑RDT&E, SDREN/JWICS and lab environments; familiarity with virtualization/VDI, backup tooling, and storage ecosystems.
  • Proficiency with DISA STIGs, USCYBERCOM directives (IAVMs/CTOs), patch management, and security hardening on classified systems.
