The Opportunity:

Tetra Tech is adding an Environmental Professional – Junior Level (Environmental Engineer I / Geologist I / Environmental Scientist I) to our Environmental Technical Group team based in Cocoa, Florida.  
Your Role:
Tetra Tech has an opening for a junior-level Environmental Professional (Environmental Engineer I / Geologist I / Environmental Scientist I) to provide professional support to various environmental assessment and remediation projects. Assignments will include various environmental projects involving soil, soil vapor, groundwater investigations, installation and maintenance of remediation systems, field sampling and field supervision of remediation projects.  Other education/skills in environmental compliance activities is a plus. Essential duties and responsibilities include the following; other duties may be assigned.

Responsibilities:

•    Conduct field work for Phase I, II, and III Environmental Site Assessments;
•    Perform investigations at Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA), Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA), and Petroleum Sites;
•    Collection of soil, water, sediment, and air samples using various sampling techniques;
•    Report writing, generation of figures, tables, and database management;
•    Assist in preparation of remedial action plans, feasibility studies, corrective measure studies, remedial designs, and other engineering documents;
•    Assist in preparation of Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plans (SWPPP), Spill Prevention, Control, and Countermeasure (SPCC) plans, and other compliance documents;
•    Remediation system installation and operation, maintenance, and monitoring;
•    Conduct activities in line with internal procedures, legislation, and industry standards.
•    Pursue continuous professional development and maintain a high degree of discipline, knowledge and awareness.
•    Work in a safe manner at all times and report all health and safety incidents and concerns.
•    Additional duties as required.
 

 

 Qualifications:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
•    Bachelor's degree in Environmental Engineering/Environmental Sciences/Geology or a related area.
•    Enough geology credits to obtain GIT or Engineer-In-Training (EIT) certification is preferred.  
•    Ideal candidates will have a working knowledge of ESRI software, MS Office Suite, and technical writing skills.
•    Candidates must be highly motivated, self-starters that want to establish a career in environmental consulting.
•    Willingness and ability to travel as needed, approximately 25%.
•    Energetic with ability to overcome obstacles to complete a task safely and efficiently.
•    Strong work ethic and problem-solving skills.
•    Effective time management skills with the ability to meet tight deadlines.
•    U.S. Citizenship and ability to obtain and maintain a National Agency Check with Local Agency Check (NACLC) clearance from the Department of Defense (DoD).
•    Valid state driver license and ability to obtain U.S. Passport.

This position requires the candidate to be a U.S. Citizen due to the projects they will be working on.
 

If this position requires a CAC card, CUI Enclave Access and/or a Security Clearance, a background check will be completed.

Physical Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Assisting field investigation and construction oversight activities could potentially require the following: Performing strenuous fieldwork under a variety of site and weather conditions; Standing, crouching and sitting to facilitate operation of the equipment and collecting samples; moving earth via shovels or hand augers; lifting of pumps, other remediation equipment, cases containing equipment, sample coolers and other items weighing between 1 and 50 pounds; and potential exposure to natural (e.g., poison ivy) and chemical hazards.  Since some projects are located in Florida, heat is often an issue. Ability to perform and maintain rigorous detailed documentation of field activities.

Work Environment: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.  Work will be split between field and office work, but the employee can expect >50% of the work to be in the field. Field work will primarily be in the southeast but could be any-where based on client needs, so the ability to travel and work remotely and on weekends or extended hours (as needed) may be required. Field project durations may range from one day to several weeks. Office work will be in a typical office environment with controlled conditions.  
 

Language & Communication Skills: Ability to read, research, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical documents and procedures, and government regulations.  Ability to write detailed reports, business correspondence, and procedures suitable for client submittal.  Ability to effectively present information, communicate, and respond to questions from groups of coworkers, clients, customers, and the general public.  Effective communication skills, both orally and in written form.  Must be fluent in the English language – reading, writing, and speaking.

Mathematical Skills: 
Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of algebra, solid and plane geometry, and trigonometry.  Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.  Strong background in mathematics and its application to quantitative analysis/problem solving a plus.

OTHER SKILLS:  
Candidate must have the ability to work well in a professional and team-oriented environment, as well as independently. Candidate should possess strong organizational skills, excellent leadership skills, and be client focused. Must possess basic computer skills; the computer skills must include proficiency in Microsoft Windows, Word and Excel. Experience with ArcGIS and/or AutoCAD a plus.
Ability to evaluate basic and complex issues, solve practical problems, and deal with a variety of concrete and abstract variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.  Ability to interpret and follow a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Strong technical, writing, and verbal communication skills required. General computer, word processing, and spreadsheet capabilities are required, along with experience with using Microsoft Office applications (WORD, PowerPoint, EXCEL, etc.).
Must possess a valid driver's license in good standing and successfully pass a Department of Motor Vehicles background check.
