Your Role:
We are seeking a mid-level project scientist to manage and support emergency response and time-critical removal/response projects within EPA Region 7 (Missouri, Kansas, Iowa and Nebraska). This position will primarily support projects throughout the four-state area.
Responsibilities will include managing or supporting emergency responses and time-critical removal actions under EPA's Superfund Program. Tasks include supporting rotation of 24/7 on-call duties to manage and support emergency responses reported via EPA's Spill Line; participation in training and exercises designed to enhance response capabilities; supporting non-time critical removal actions; preparation of sampling plans and health and safety plans; field studies including the collection of soil, groundwater and indoor air samples; interpretation of sample data and preparation of data summary reports; and supporting other environmental studies. This position will require extensive outdoor work, and will require overnight travel.
In this position you will be part of a project team, gaining valuable data collection experience in the field and preparing detailed analysis of field data and project reports. Tetra Tech provides mentoring and training opportunities to help junior staff hone their areas of expertise and diversify their interests.
Qualifications:
Candidates should have 3 to 7 years of experience with emergency response, site investigation and site cleanup support, including familiarization with field equipment such as PIDs, particulate monitors, and other air monitoring instrumentation. Candidates should also have experience sampling environmental media (soil, groundwater, air, etc.) and containers (drums, totes, tanks, etc.), interpreting laboratory sample data, and preparing reports describing sampling activities and results
Must possess strong analytical, organizational and communication skills (both written and verbal). Must also be highly motivated, customer focused and work well in a team environment. Proficiency with MS Word and Excel also preferred.
Education:
B.S. degree in scientific or engineering field is required. Completion of 40-Hour Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) training and current 8-hour HAZWOPER refresher training is required.
Physical Demands:
Must be able to lift sample coolers and other equipment up to 50 pounds. Must be able to wear self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) and full-face respirator and complete annual medical monitoring program, including pulmonary function testing.
Work Environment:
This position will require extensive outdoor work primarily within the four-state area of Missouri, Kansas, Iowa and Nebraska during all seasons, including peak summer and winter conditions. This position may also support projects outside of the four-state region
