LEAD STRESS ENGINEER

LOCATION: 2000, 250 6 Ave SW Calgary, Alberta

Our Calgary office is a multidisciplinary team of designers, technologists, and engineers. We specialize in small to mid-sized projects for clients across Canada. The types of clients we work for include:

  • Energy Transition (CO2, Hydrogen, RNG, Renewables and associated minerals)

We are currently searching for a Lead Stress Engineer to join our team in Calgary, Alberta. Lead Piping Stress Engineers are individuals who, as part of the mechanical engineering department technical group, are responsible for static and dynamic analysis of piping and pipe support systems; and providing other general and specialized technical support to Project Team Leaders.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ensuring design work complies with all applicable local, provincial, federal and industry codes, regulations and standards, and is in accordance with company and client standards & procedures
  • Static and dynamic stress analysis of piping systems for refineries, pipelines, power plants, and slurry transportation piping, including detailed specification of pipe support elements (guides, spring hangers, snubbers, and expansion joints)
  • Pipeline sizing and wall thickness calculations including hot tap calculations (piping, tank, pressure vessel)
  • Design and specification of piping components and pipe supports
  • Preparing packages for registration with safety authorities
  • Inter-discipline co-ordination during the development and implementation of design to ensure design interfaces and schedule dependencies are met.
  • Senior Engineers are expected to work closely with other disciplines and share knowledge with less experienced colleagues within the company and with clients.
  • Day-to-day management of assigned resources in order to complete project requirements
  • Supervision and mentoring of 2-5 employees
  • Ensuring that all project scope items are addressed and quality objectives met
  • Ensuring project schedules and budgets are maintained and adhered to
  • Visits to client sites for discussion and project co-ordination ranging from occasional (average one day a week) to frequent (average two to three days a week)
  • Coordination with Team Leaders and Discipline Managers for technical support

 

SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:

  • Related experience in pipeline, piping design and  stress analysis
  • Strong working knowledge of industry Codes and Standards (ASME, ASTM, CSA, API, NEMA, NFPA, etc)
  • Working knowledge of the requirements of BC Safety Authority (BCSA) and Alberta Safety Authority (ABSA)
  • Proficiency in stress analysis using Caesar II and/or AutoPIPE
  • Experience in hot tapping calculations on piping, tanks, and pressure vessels
  • Knowledge of Finite Element Analysis software such as Nozzle-Pro and FE-Pipe will be an asset
  • Experience in the practical aspects of equipment and piping system and support design, installation and start-up
  • Engineering experience within an industrial consulting engineering environment is required
  • Strong interpersonal skills for both client and internal team interfaces
  • Excellent oral and written skills
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) registered in BC and/or Alberta
