Australia Awards PNG Overview

The Australia Awards PNG (AAPNG) program supports Papua New Guinea's development goals through education, knowledge transfer, and institutional capacity building, fostering strong Australia-PNG partnerships. It promotes inclusive, high-quality education by strengthening accredited training institutions and facilitating institution-to-institution collaborations. AAPNG empowers Papua New Guinea's future leaders with professional and technical skills aligned to government priorities, ensuring opportunities for women, people with disabilities, and those from rural areas. The program offers three study pathways: long-term postgraduate scholarships in Australia, long-term scholarships in PNG addressing workforce gaps, and short-term professional development courses in both countries.


Key responsibilities

  • Oversee AAPNG communications and public diplomacy, proactively responding to opportunities and optimizing team resources.
  • Provide strategic advice and develop relationships with media and key stakeholders.
  • Ensure timely, high-quality reporting and compliance with DFAT and company standards.
  • Identify and manage risks related to communications, partnerships, and public diplomacy.
  • Promote gender equality, disability inclusion, and human resource development through communications.
  • Lead program culture, champion GEDSI principles, support staff capacity building, and maintain a safe work environment.


Selection criteria

  • Relevant undergraduate qualifications desirable; strong logical thinking and clear communication skills essential.
  • Proven experience managing small teams and delivering high-quality outputs under pressure, preferably in communications.
  • Demonstrated project management expertise in international development, with experience working closely with donors.
  • Excellent English writing, attention to detail, organizational skills, and proficiency in Microsoft Office 365.
