The Program:
Australia Assists is an Australian Government program that deploys skilled humanitarian specialists to support multilateral agencies, governments, civil society and communities to prepare for, respond to, and recover from disasters and conflict. Australia Assists' Goal is to: Save lives, alleviate suffering, and maintain human dignity during and in the aftermath of conflict, disasters and other humanitarian crises, and strengthen preparedness for the occurrence of such situations. The program's Objective is: Targeted deployment of humanitarian expertise that meets the priorities and needs of Australia's multilateral, bilateral and civil society partners and advances Australia's international humanitarian priorities.
The Role:
The Regional Logistics Specialist will strengthen the humanitarian logistics capacity of UNFPA country offices across the Asia Pacific, ensure the effectiveness of the Regional Prepositioning Initiative (Phase 3) supported by the Government of Australia, and enhance Australia's investment impact through faster, greener, and more accountable delivery of essential supplies to women and girls in emergencies.
Key responsibilities
- Support country offices in the mobilization, storage, and distribution of emergency supplies to affected populations in emergency response.
- Coordinate logistics efforts in collaboration with global, regional and country-level Logistics Clusters, and work closely with interagency partners such as WFP, UNICEF, WHO, and others
- Lead or support procurement, transport, warehousing, and last mile logistics for emergency operations, including for cross-border and border-based initiatives.
- Support country offices to conduct warehouse assessments, partner assessments, and ensure compliance with good storage and distribution practices.
- Support country offices and national partners to monitor warehouse conditions and stock management at national and subnational levels.
- Deliver and/or coordinate logistics training for UNFPA country office staff, UNFPA implementing partners and other key national partners and stakeholders.
- Support country offices in developing contingency logistics plans
Selection criteria
- Advanced degree in logistics management or equivalent relevant professional certification in areas such as transport, distribution and supply chain management.
- Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in humanitarian logistics, including emergency supplies management, warehousing, transport, and last mile distribution.
- Experience working with medical commodities is desirable but not mandatory.
- A strong understanding of the current political landscape and its complexities across the region is highly desirable.
- Proficiency in English and in other official languages or the UN required.
- Ability to prioritize competing demands, collaborate and share information in a high-pressured environment and meet deadlines.
- Willingness to travel across the region during emergencies.
