Schedule: 2x 8 hour shifts one week and 3x 8 hour shifts the other week; Every Friday, and flexible the others

Pay Range: $37.00-50.00/hour, based on exp.

Main Function:

  • Provides education services to nursing staff in preparing for contemporary practice and supporting them in acquiring the knowledge and skills so they can competently carry out all facets of patient education related to wound/ostomy care.
  • Utilizes theory-based practice to include nursing care to hospitalized patients with complex wounds and ostomies, performs assessments and develops treatment plans to optimize wound healing.
  • Serves as part of an interdisciplinary team providing education, support and continuity of care throughout the various stages of treatment and follow-up.

Job Responsibilities: 

  • Must have high level critical thinking skills and excellent judgement.
  • Must be innovative and creative in developing clinical educational programs in specialty areas.
  • Functions as a clinical expert in wounds, ostomy, and continence care.
  • Reports directly to the CNO, collaborating with the nurse educators in creation of clinical skills and nursing professional development

Qualifications: 

  • Current New York State RN License/Registration
  • Bachelors degree in Nursing (BSN) required 
  • Certified Wound-Ostomy Nurse (CWON) required 
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) Certification
  • Maintains a minimum of 30 hours of continuing education 
  • Good Communication skills and skilled in customer service
  • Minimum of three (3) years of Clinical RN experience
  • Wound/Ostomy experience preferred 

Required Job Specific Competencies: 

  • Demonstrates advanced skills in assessment and interventions with respect to wounds, ostomy, continence.
  • Understanding the principles of evidence-based practice with respect to wound, ostomy, and continence care and education.
  • The ability to develop educational interventions based on adult learning theory, fostering critical thinking skills among all levels of associate.
  • Collaborates with the interdisciplinary team.
  • Ability to function autonomously within the scope of practice.
