The Clinical Nurse Specialist play a key role in providing the highest quality of patient care while the patient is in at Union Health.
The CNS provides clinical leadership and direction to the multidisciplinary care center with an emphasis on enhanced clinical excellence and optimal patient outcomes. The CNS is an expert clinical practitioner whose specialized skill set is used to impact outcomes in three major areas: patients and families, nursing practice and the organization/system. This high-level role is accountable for collaborating with all members of the healthcare team to design, implement and measure and provide safe, cost-effective, evidence-based care strategies. The Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) reports directly to the Emergency Services Director.

CNS job details:
Essential Job Duties:
- Predicts clinical trajectory.
- Develops proactive and preventative interventions to avoid undesired outcomes for complex patients.
- Leads development, implementation and evaluation of nursing standards of care including care plans/pathways, policy and procedures, protocols, etc.
- Role models and incorporates principles of family centered care to establish mutual partnerships in care for patients and families.
- Assists individual patient/families in knowledge and skill acquisition to safely navigate the healthcare continuum and prevent fragmentation (safe passage).
- Incorporates population-based needs into program planning and individual care plans.
- Promotes an environment which embraces patient and family rights assuring confidentiality and autonomy to facilitate egalitarian and empowering relationships with patients and families.
- Leads quality improvement processes related to patient/family care and nursing practices on the unit, cluster or system level.
Qualifications:
- Must have Indiana RN license and meet regulatory requirements to practice as a CNS.
- When available, certification at the advanced level in the area of clinical specialty is required within two years of date of hire.
- Requires Master of Nursing (MSN) as a CNS from an accredited graduate program that prepares the CNS to practice in accordance with the recommendation
License/Certification:
- BLS certification
- IN RN license
