The Jindal School of Management (JSOM) is looking for a dedicated Academic Advisor II to support undergraduate students in their academic journey. In this role, you will collaborate with advisors, program directors, deans, and faculty to provide guidance on degree requirements, assist with admissions, registration, and degree audits, and maintain student records.

Minimum Education and Experience

- Bachelor's degree and two (2) years related experience; or Master's degree.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Function & Scope:
Supports the coordination and delivery of academic advising services that promote student retention and academic progress. Works independently with students and collaborates with faculty, staff, and administration to apply effective advising strategies and ensure consistent support across programs.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Proven ability to work effectively as part of a team and assist in onboarding and training new advising staff.
  • Proficiency in advising technologies and systems such as PeopleSoft, OnBase, StudentBook, and Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to interpret and communicate complex academic information to students clearly and accurately.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify student needs, make appropriate referrals, and support student problem-solving.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and work independently.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Provides one-on-one and group advising to students, including those with complex academic paths or who are at academic risk.
  • Interprets degree requirements, university policies, and procedures; assists students in developing and updating academic plans.
  • Reviews and analyzes student records for academic progress, degree planning, and graduation readiness.
  • Collaborates with faculty and staff to support academic success initiatives, including workshops, orientation, and retention programs.
  • Serves as a resource for newer advising staff; may assist with training or mentoring less experienced colleagues.
  • Participates in departmental planning, policy review, and service delivery improvement initiatives.
  • Attends professional development sessions and contributes to the implementation of best practices in advising.
  • Partners with lead advisors and the assistant director to enhance workflows and ensure accurate and efficient advising processes each registration cycle.
  • Monitors and evaluates department-created tools and resources to ensure they effectively support advising goals and student success.


Additional Information

Remote Work Notice
A hybrid remote work schedule may be available (currently 1-day remote weekly). Employees must be located within the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex area and have the ability to be on campus for work activities as scheduled and/or with 24-hour notice. Completion and approval of a UT Dallas Remote Work Agreement will be required upon employment, and use of personal computer, internet, and other standard equipment may be required. Remote work arrangements are subject to regular review and re-approval and may be canceled at any time.
