Description
The Assistant Dean of Graduate Education will work closely with the Dean of Graduate Education and the Assistant Dean for Graduate Student Success to provide oversight and support for graduate education at the University of Texas at Dallas. The Assistant Dean of Graduate Education must show innovation and creativity in improving the quality of all aspects of graduate education and modernizing the Office of Graduate Education operations. The Assistant Dean must show leadership qualities and an ability to work well with faculty, staff, students, and the outside community.
Minimum Education and Experience
Minimum of a Graduate degree in a discipline related to the job function; minimum of five years of management experience in an academic environment or equivalent corporate environment. If this position has direct instructional responsibilities it will require a doctorate degree.
Preferred Education and Experience
The Assistant Dean of Graduate Education must have experience at the graduate level in the American higher education system. Excellent communication skills and managerial experience are necessary.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The Assistant Dean of Graduate Education's responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Works closely with the Graduate Dean to initiate, develop, and facilitate innovations to improve graduate education.
- Works with enrollment services, school deans, and program heads to improve recruiting efforts for excellent graduate students at UT Dallas.
- Collaborates with the Registrar to enhance the graduation application process and maintain graduate student forms.
- Works with the Office of Information Technology and the Office of Institutional Success and Decision Support as the primary contact for solutions related to the Office of Graduate Education.
- Serves as the Office of Graduate Education's primary contact for the university's CRM implementation.
- Serves on the SACSCOC leadership team and related duties, leads the annual assessment plan, and maintains the continuity plan.
- Assists the Graduate Dean and Assistant Dean for Graduate Student Success with advocating for and supporting all graduate students and navigating academic challenges by working in partnership with the academic departments, International Students and Scholars Office, and other campus resources.
- Works with the Dean and Assistant Dean for Graduate Student Success to develop additional programming to support professional development of graduate and post-doctoral students.
- Appoints Examining Committee Chairs, committee appointment forms, dissertation proposals, and announces examinations.
- Oversees the design and collection of the Milestone Agreement forms for doctoral students.
- According to the Graduate Dean's policies and directives, the Assistant Dean of Graduate Education acts on his behalf when he is not on campus.
- Attends and participates in Graduate Council meetings.
- Advises faculty, staff, students, and the outside community of existing graduate policies and procedures.
- In collaboration with the Assistant Dean for Graduate Student Success, prepares and conducts program meetings to inform the OGE staff of changes to policies and procedures. When a new procedure requires training of graduate staff in schools, convenes an Advisors' Council for the OGE.
- Works closely with the Assistant Dean for Graduate Student Success to help resolve student issues that have been escalated to the Office of Graduate Education.
- Develops and executes innovative strategies to improve and streamline graduate education processes, including the verification and certification of graduate degrees, as well as tracking student progress toward degree completion.
- Assists the Graduate Dean in evaluating exceptions to academic policies
- Collaborates with stakeholders across the campus to provide guidance on existing policies, expectations, and issues related to TA/RA/GA roles.

Remote Notice: After the probationary period, this role may be eligible for a hybrid (partly remote/partly in office) work schedule, subject to business need and manager approval. May be required to use personal computer and other standard office equipment. Must be located within the DFW Area and have the ability to be on campus with 24 hours of notice. A UT Dallas Remote Work Agreement will be required within 14 days after approval.
