Description
The Assistant Director for Healthy Comets & Nutrition Coordinator is responsible for overseeing professional staff wellness coaching and the general wellness programming within the Student Wellness Center. This role provides strategic leadership for the Healthy Comets initiative, promoting a culture of well-being on campus through evidence-based wellness programs, coaching services, and skills-based wellness education. The position also serves as the campus nutrition expert, offering individualized and group education on nutrition-related topics and collaborating with campus partners to enhance health and wellness initiatives at UT Dallas. The role incorporates a Health at Every Size (HAES) approach and principles of body neutrality in all nutrition-related work.
Minimum Education and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in a related discipline. – Minimum of 3 years in Health education developing and providing programming.- Equivalent education and/or experience in other health or wellness fields will be considered.
Preferred Education and Experience
Education & Experience:
- Master's degree in Public Health, Health Education, Higher Education Administration, Counseling, Social Work, or a related field.
- Minimum of three years of experience in health education, wellness programming, or related areas within a higher education setting.
- Strong organizational and project management skills.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with campus partners and student populations.
- Knowledge of current health and wellness issues affecting college students.
- Proficiency in assessment and evaluation of programs and services.
- Health/nutrition education in a higher education setting
- Experience overseeing nutrition and wellness coaching programs
- Familiarity with public health and student development theories, including the Social-Ecological Model, Transtheoretical Model (Stages of Change), SBIRT (Screening, Brief Intervention, and Referral to Treatment), Astin's Theory of Involvement, and Kolb's Experiential Learning Theory.
- Understanding and application of Trauma-Informed Care and Strength-Based Approaches.
- Proficiency in case management and supervision of student leaders within a higher education context.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Coordinate and support professional wellness coaching services, ensuring adherence to best practices in coaching and evidence-based health promotion strategies.
- Develop and maintain a referral network with local agencies and campus partners to enhance the wellness coaching program.
- Supervise and support the Sexual Violence Prevention Coordinator and Peer Health Educators, ensuring effective program implementation and student engagement.
- Oversee the development, implementation, and assessment of general wellness programming, including skills-based workshops, outreach events, and health education campaigns.
- Support wellness-related initiatives, policies, and strategic planning within the Student Wellness Center, ensuring alignment with institutional goals.
- Provide individualized nutrition coaching for students, addressing general nutrition concerns and connecting students with appropriate resources for eating disorders and chronic illness management.
- Design and facilitate workshops and training sessions to build general nutrition and cooking skills, enhance awareness of disordered eating, and promote understanding of support networks.
- Create and implement engaging programs and events that foster open discussions about nutrition, body image, nourishment, and intuitive eating.
- Lead initiatives for Eating Disorder Awareness Week and other key engagement events related to nutrition and body image.
Additional Information
Remote Notice: After the probationary period, this role may be eligible for a hybrid (partly remote/partly in office) work schedule, subject to business need and manager approval. Must be located within the DFW Area and have the ability to be on campus with 24 hours of notice. A UT Dallas Remote Work Agreement will be required within 14 days after approval.
