Performs and oversees preventative maintenance and contractors work on HVAC equipment associated with multi-story commercial and lab buildings. Installs replacement coils for any size system, motors, electronics, refrigeration system, compressors, thermostats, humidistats, fans, and heating and cooling systems. Troubleshoot and resolve issues with HVAC equipment. Train and oversee the work of other HVAC technicians. Maintain records and prepares reports on repairs and services according to university and regulatory requirements. Reads and interprets drawings and technical manuals. Maintain a flexible work schedule including being on-call.

Minimum Education and Experience

High school diploma, GED or equivalent and a minimum of five years in the operation and maintenance of HVAC equipment and ability to obtain Texas HVAC Contractor License. Background in refrigeration and air balance, and two years in a supervisory capacity. Expected to know and seek knowledge of Siemen's building system. Knowledge of stage planning and layout of new buildings; knowledge of latest technology in mechanical equipment. Ability to order correct materials and equipment for the HVAC Shop; current knowledge of rules and laws in the mechanical field; ability to size HVAC units and ducts. Basic knowledge of all fluid systems, all kinds of pumps, and steam.



Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Perform and oversee preventative maintenance work on HVAC equipment associated with multi-story commercial and lab buildings.
  • Oversee contractor work and prepare quotes.
  • Respond to hot/cold and other related calls.
  • Troubleshoot and repair HVAC equipment.
  • Order parts and materials, and maintain records.
  • Train and oversee the work of other HVAC technicians.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Additional Information

Work Notice: Work will be performed on site and in-person.
May be required to report to on-site work location during campus closure.
May be required to report to on-site work location during inclement weather.
