Description
The Addou Lab at the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at the University of Texas at Dallas (UTD) is seeking a highly motivated and skilled postdoctoral researcher specializing in interfaces and surface science of atomically thin films. The successful candidate will contribute to ongoing research projects that advance our understanding and application of nano and 2D materials. The position is a one-year contract, with the possibility of renewal subject to performance and the availability of funds.
Minimum Education and Experience
Ph.D in a related field.
Preferred Education and Experience
- PhD in Materials Science, Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, or a related field with a strong focus on UHV surface science metrology.
- Demonstrated expertise in using Ultra-High Vacuum (UHV) systems, X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy (XPS), Scanning Tunneling Microscopy (STM), Atomic Layer Deposition (ALD), and Molecular Beam Epitaxy (MBE).
- A strong publication record, including first-author papers in peer-reviewed journals, signifying research impact and scholarly contribution.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills to effectively convey complex scientific concepts to audiences.
Preferred Skills
- Experience with characterization of nano and 2D materials is highly desirable.
- Familiarity with computational modeling or simulations related to surface science.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced research environment.

- Teaching and research proposal writing experience is also desired.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Conduct independent research in surface science and advanced material characterization techniques, focusing on electronic materials surfaces, atomically thin films, and device interfaces
- Utilize advanced methods including Ultra-High Vacuum (UHV), X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy (XPS), Scanning Tunneling Microscopy (STM), Atomic Layer Deposition (ALD), and Molecular Beam Epitaxy (MBE) for material analysis and characterization.
- Collaborate with lab members to design and execute experiments, analyze data, and interpret results effectively.
- Prepare and publish high-quality manuscripts in peer-reviewed journals, contributing to the lab's research output.
- Present research findings at national and international conferences and seminars.
- Mentor graduate and undergraduate students as needed, fostering a collaborative research environment.
