The Research Technician I will join a growing research group dedicated to uncovering the molecular and cellular mechanisms underlying chronic pain and substance use disorders. The successful candidate will contribute to a translational, high-impact, multidisciplinary projects that integrate molecular biology, neuroscience, pharmacology, and advanced imaging techniques.

The Research Technician will play a key role in generating and analyzing data, maintaining experimental systems, and supporting day-to-day lab operations. Under the mentorship of the Principal Investigator and senior team members, the Research Technician will gain valuable technical and conceptual training, with potential for long-term professional development.

Minimum Education and Experience
Requires High School graduation or equivalent and six months of experience in scientific research work. Working knowledge of the various types of equipment in use in the laboratory to which assigned. Extreme accuracy in preparing materials and recording data. Normal laboratory conditions. Sometimes requires working with hazardous equipment and materials or in hazardous environments.
Preferred Education and Experience
- Experience with animal handling and behavioral assays
- Familiarity with RNA/protein extraction, immunostaining, or microscopy
- Proficiency in data analysis software (e.g., GraphPad Prism, ImageJ, Excel, R/Pyton)
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform routine molecular biology, biochemical, and cell culture techniques (e.g., PCR, Western blotting, ELISA, immunostaining, and microscopy).
- Assist with analysis of large datasets (e.g., RNAseq, metabolomics)
- Assist with behavioral testing and physiological measurements in rodent models of chronic pain and substance use disorders.
- Prepare and maintain laboratory reagents, buffers, and experimental solutions.
- Collect, organize, and analyze experimental data; contribute to the interpretation and presentation of results.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date laboratory notebooks and electronic records in accordance with data integrity and reproducibility standards.
- Assist in the preparation of figures, reports, and manuscripts for presentations and publications.
- Monitor inventory levels and order laboratory supplies as needed.
- Support lab safety compliance, including proper handling and disposal of hazardous materials.
- Assist in the training of undergraduate students and new lab members in basic techniques and protocols.
- Participate in weekly lab meetings and contribute to discussions on project planning and troubleshooting.
- Coordinate animal care needs and ordering with veterinary and administrative staff.
- Maintain lab organization, including equipment maintenance and cleanliness of shared spaces.
Additional Information
This position will be located in The Texas Instruments Biomedical Engineering and Sciences (BMES) Building at The University of Texas at Dallas. It's a facility that supports the Bioengineering and Biomedical Sciences programs at UTD, particularly the collaboration with UT Southwestern Medical Center. 2336 Inwood Rd, Dallas, TX 75235.
Work is conducted onsite and in-person.
