Position Reports to:  Director of Occupational Health        

Department Description: Wilson Health's Occupational Health Department provides occupational health services that are robust benefiting both employers and employees reducing absenteeism and turnover, increasing productivity, morale, job satisfaction, and decreasing sickness and injuries amongst employees. The following services are offered by our department: Drug & Alcohol Testing, Education Sessions, Employee Assistance Program, Hearing Conservation Program, Physical Examinations, Wilson Onsite Wellness, Worksite Health & Injury Management, and Telemedicine Services. 

Job Summary:  Under the supervision of the Director of Occupational Health/Urgent Care (OHS), the Worker's Compensation Specialist works independently to be responsible for the ICD-10 and CPT coding of all work related injuries and illnesses and Urgent Care patients, verifies responsible party/insurance information, sends hard copy BWC forms to appropriate company, TPA or representative to obtain claim or treatment authorization, follows up on all unauthorized claims/treatment requests to pursue authorization of OHS visits and/or treatments. Coder/biller will also review Urgent Care dictations and bill visits accordingly.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
  1. Keep all patient information in strict confidence.
  2. Use Meditech, Systoc and Allscripts computer systems/EMR.
  3. Complete the coding process of all OHS/Urgent Care visits according to record content and coding principles and rules. 
    1. Fax to Employers, MCOs, and TPAs
  4. Utilize the Injury Folder of Systoc (other folders as needed) to enter claim data into Systoc.
    1. Claim number
    2. Date & Time of injury
    3. Employer/MCO/TPA information
    4. Authorizations
    5. Claim Status
    6. Other information as received 
  5. Consult providers in OHS/Urgent Care with all coding questions as needed.  Maintain knowledge of coding principles and rules.  Perform chart analysis on Workers' Compensation records and Urgent Care patients as assigned.  
  6. Enter Worker's Comp charges/codes on all initial and follow up visits in Meditech.  
  7. Effectively present information and respond to questions from hospital managers, staff members, providers, physician offices, insurance companies, Bureau of Workers' Compensation, patients, and Employers/Companies.  Resolve questions regarding customer/patient accounts.
  8. Generate monthly reports with results to Director of OHS/UC.
  9. Updates customer and patient addresses received.
  10. Shall assist with the coordination of activities of the unit:
    1. Replace the receptionist during breaks.
    2. Filing.
  11. Other duties may be assigned as needed.
  12. Obtains and accurately records vital signs, chief complaint, current medications and allergies.
 
  1. Assists physician/provider with examinations, including blood draws, lab specimens, injections, electrocardiograms; assists physician/provider with minor surgical procedures.
 
  1. Educates patients/family members on topics related to the patient's medical condition and care within the guidelines established by the physician/provider.
 
  1. Documents in the patient's medical record accurately, appropriately, and thoroughly.
 
  1. Assists in ordering diagnostic tests and procedures, and making referrals, including referral tracking documentation in the practice management system.
Qualifications:
  • Must have 5-7 years of directly related experience in billing/coding in Worker's Compensation/Occupational Health
  • Highschool diploma or GED required, Associates degree preferred
  • Microsoft office experience preferred
  • Familiarity with Sysdoc preferred
