The Test Technician position is responsible for the hands-on support of product assembly, performing tests, and troubleshooting of both production and prototype HVAC&R equipment. The HVAC&R equipment includes heat exchanger coils, air conditioners, refrigeration units, air handling systems, and their related electrical controls. In addition to HVAC&R equipment, other equipment that will be operated and/or tested by the technician includes pumps, commercial chillers, and service water distribution systems.
Job Responsibilities• Testing of mechanical equipment, especially heat exchangers, air conditioning, refrigeration and air handling systems under the supervision of engineers
• Reading and following test procedures, conducting accurate tests, and maintaining equipment test logs
• Connection of power/water, instruments and equipment in preparation for tests
• Hands on work with HVAC&R equipment, chillers, and water pumps
• Evacuate, leak test and operate refrigeration equipment
• Gather and assemble test data and test reports for engineers. Communication of test results.
• Support development of new HVAC&R equipment for component sizing, selection, and performance predictions
• Assist in wiring and fabricating prototype control panels using industry standard practices
• Debug test hardware/software and assist in the selection of new and improved test instruments and lab facilities
• Troubleshoot production and prototype HVAC&R equipment electrical issues and test electrical assemblies
• Use basic electrical schematics, refrigeration diagrams, and product drawings to complete tasks
• Support 6S and continuous improvement initiatives
• Work with manufacturing and cross functional teams to achieve project cost and manufacturing efficiency goals
• Develop Standard operating Procedures to maintain equipment and facilities
• Support Creation of test procedures to assess product reliability and evaluate the ability of products to meet performance standards and specifications
• Travel as required to other test sites in support of equipment testing
• Contribute to team efforts by accomplishing results in a cooperative and supportive manner
• Complete assigned tasks on time, within budget and following design specifications
• Communicate clearly (written and oral) with other company personnel and customers
• Support, communicate, reinforce, and defend the mission, values and culture of the organization
• High School diploma or GED
• Competent technical expertise in HVAC&R systems and tools
• EPA 608 Universal Certification
• Ability to obtain Security Clearance
• Ability to read simple electrical schematics, refrigeration diagrams and product drawings
• Experience with terminal soldering, crimping, and connector fabrication
• Ability to work independently under supervision of others while reporting of progress and status
• Proficient with basic hand and shop tools
• Competency with MS Office software tools including Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint
Desired Qualifications
• Associate degree in HVAC or other formal HVAC training
• 2 years of experience in HVAC, preferably commercial HVAC
• Experience in servicing air-cooled or water-cooled chillers
• Experience with safe electrical practices, such as lock-out/tag-out
• Experience with LabVIEW or other PC based data acquisition systems
• Experience with terminal soldering, crimping, and connector fabrication
• Experience or desire to assist in schematic capture and control panel design
