Job Summary

Located 15 minutes north of downtown Dallas, Leonardo DRS is a leading innovator of infrared (IR) sensors and imaging systems.  

As a member of the “IR Materials” Process Engineering team, you will be responsible for one or more stages of the manufacturing process used to fabricate the IR sensitive materials for cooled infrared detectors.  These processes may include planarization techniques such as chemical mechanical polishing (CMP), lapping, and diamond point turn (flycutting) in efforts to produce epitaxy-ready CdZnTe substrates.

Your duties will encompass process management, process improvements, process troubleshooting, and new process development.  This position is critical to the success of Leonardo DRS infrared imaging products.
 

Job Responsibilities

•    Own and maintain manufacturing processes, methods, and equipment. 
•    Design, develop, and document new or improved processes and equipment.
•    Manage projects to reduce variability and improve quality.
•    Extract and analyze process data and yield data.
•    Support production output by addressing process deviations and equipment excursions.
•    Document process instructions and equipment operation through the creation and revision of standard operating procedures.
•    Provide technical knowledge and assistance to other engineers and support personnel.
 

Qualifications

•    Education: Bachelor's degree in Materials Science Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
•    Experience: 2+ years
•    Strong mechanical aptitude and a desire to work with equipment and tools for the purpose of process improvement, new process development, and process troubleshooting.
•    Organized, enthusiastic, and creative with a desire to solve problems and improve all aspects of the manufacturing process.
•    Able to communicate effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds.  
•    Willingness to spend extended periods in manufacturing areas, cleanrooms, or labs.
•    An experimental and creative mindset with the desire to become the subject matter expert.
 

Desired Skills

•    Familiarity with or interest in materials science fundamentals such as crystallography and materials characterization.
•    Previous experience with precision planarization techniques such as chemical mechanical polishing (CMP), lapping, and diamond point turn or flycutting, with the objective of producing optically flat or epitaxy-ready surfaces.
•    Previous experience in semiconductor processing or a related field is a plus.
•    Experience troubleshooting manufacturing processes and equipment.
•    Aptitude in programming and data query.
•    Working knowledge of DOE, SPC, and formal problem solving methods such as DMAIC.
•    Experience with 3D CAD.
