Job Summary

The Prototype Specialist is responsible to work with Engineering, Production and Operations to provide hands on feedback to engineers that will help improve processes and products. The day to day will include hands on testing and troubleshooting products in development to help ensure production efficiency and processes are considered in the design of our products..

The Prototype Specialist will:
  • Be involved with the design, development, modification and analysis of semiconductor processing or semiconductor products/devices.
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose problems with existing processes or products and make modifications and improvements as needed.
  • Compile and evaluate process or product design and test data. 
  • Evaluate and recommend design approaches to meet production requirements for new or improved products or processes.
  • Support engineering with a variety of moderately complex engineering duties and/or hands-on tasks
  • Assist in design, build and/or procurement of new or improved machines, tools, fixtures and material handling equipment and coordinating the implementation
  • Be responsible for completing process documentation, bill of materials, route sheets, etc
  • Review project instructions and drawings to ascertain test specifications, procedures, objectives, test equipment, nature of technical problem and possible solutions, and to support the design for manufacture
  • Devise, fabricate, and assemble new or modified electrical and/or mechanical components or assemblies for products
  • Set up and conduct tests of units and components
  • Analyze test results related to the design and test objectives and adjust equipment to bring within specifications
  • Record these test procedures and results, numerical and graphical data, and recommendations for changes in product or test methods
  • Provide and develop documentation to maintain equipment
  • Lead technician teams in development or mentor other technicians
  • Provide hands-on feedback to engineers
  • Assist in the development of manufacturing methods and process improvements
  • Mentor and coach less experienced technicians
To be successful in this role, you should have:
  • Possession of a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from a recognized post-secondary institution or equivalent work experience 
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in electrical design in a light manufacturing environment
  • P. Eng. designation, and eligible for registration with Engineers NS
  • Familiarity with the application of military and commercial standards to electrical designs is required
  • Experience reading schematics and engineering specs, with a strong ability to troubleshoot
  • Demonstrated understanding and strong interests in power electronics and power converters design 
  • Demonstrated application of electronic theory, principles of electrical circuits, testing procedures and related knowledge to construct and debug power electronics circuitry in relation to the design of power conversion equipment
  • Strong ability to analyze, record, and interpret test data to determine product acceptability
  • Involvement in the design, development, modification, and analysis of various electronics systems
  • Supports engineering with a variety of complex engineering duties and/or hands on tasks
  • Analyzes, records, and interprets test data to determine product acceptability. Recommends changes in method or installation specifications to simplify tests or reduce test times
  • Multi-Layer Printed Circuit Board (PCB) design capabilities considered an asset
